Christmas and New Year in Corralejo: What to Expect

Seasonal · 5 min read

Christmas in Corralejo

22°C on Christmas Day, fireworks over the harbor at midnight, churros at sunrise. A different kind of holiday.

Seasonal 5 min read Updated May 2026

Corralejo is Fuerteventura's busiest spot at Christmas — UK families fleeing the cold, Spanish vacationers, and a small dedicated digital-nomad crowd. Book early and you'll get a holiday that mixes warm weather, low-key Spanish traditions, and zero stress.

The holiday calendar

Dec 22: shops decorated, locals buying lottery (the famous El Gordo). Dec 24 (Nochebuena): main family dinner, restaurants close early. Dec 25: most things closed; book hotel restaurant in advance. Dec 31 (Nochevieja): harbor party, fireworks at midnight. Jan 5: Three Kings parade through the town.

Weather expected

Air 17–21°C daytime, 13–15°C at night. Sea 19°C. Sun 6–7 hours. Rain risk low. Wind moderate. A 4/3mm wetsuit for surf; t-shirt at noon, light jacket at night.

Booking tip

Christmas–New Year is peak peak — book 4+ months ahead. Prices are 60–100% higher than November. The cheaper alternative: arrive Jan 2 or Jan 7 (after Three Kings) when prices drop by half overnight.

What to do

Christmas Eve service at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen. New Year's Eve gala dinner at most resorts. Beach walk on Jan 1 (it's a 'thing' here). Three Kings parade on Jan 5 with kids' candy from camels.

Corralejo Centro Alto: The Local Quarter Guide for Long-Stay Visitors

Corralejo · Local Quarter Guide · 5 min read

Corralejo Centro Alto: Living Like a Local

Uphill from the tourist strip, Corralejo's residential quarter offers quieter streets, lower prices, and the kind of daily life rarely seen in resort towns.

Neighborhood Guide 5 min read Updated May 2026

Climb ten minutes inland from Calle La Iglesia and the tourist soundtrack fades. Centro Alto — the residential hill above Corralejo's main avenue — is where local families live, where kids cycle to school, and where you find the kind of corner bar that serves the same three beers at the same price for thirty years. It is the version of Corralejo that most short-stay visitors never see.

Where exactly is Centro Alto?

The name "Centro Alto" is informal — it simply means "upper centre." The zone covers the streets rising east and north from Avenida Juan Carlos I (the main avenue), roughly between the commercial area around El Campanario and the quieter outer streets heading toward the Majanicho road. The streets climb gently uphill on terrain that gives good elevated views over the town and, on clear days, toward Lobos Island and Lanzarote.

There are no specific tourist attractions in Centro Alto. That is exactly the point. It is a lived-in quarter of a small Canarian town, and its appeal is everyday — the panadería that opens at 07:30, the hardware shop staffed by a third-generation Majorero family, the bar where the football always seems to be on.

💡 Who benefits most from staying here

Digital nomads and remote workers, long-stay visitors (2+ weeks), experienced travellers who have already done the harbour once and want a different rhythm, couples on a budget who still want easy access to town and beaches.

Daily life practicalities — what you actually need

Food shopping

Centro Alto has two small local supermarkets (Spar format) and a weekly mercadillo (market) held on Tuesdays and Saturdays on the upper car park near Calle Hernán Cortés. The market sells fruit, vegetables, cheese, bread, flowers and clothing — cheaper and fresher than the Old Town options, and entirely locals-oriented.

Eating out

The restaurants in Centro Alto are mostly Canarian or Spanish-focused, aimed at residents rather than tourists. Prices average 15–20% lower than equivalent dishes in the harbour area. Menus are often handwritten on whiteboards and the waiter may not speak English — bring Google Translate and order the menú del día (daily set menu, typically €10–13 for three courses including wine at lunchtime).

Getting online

Several cafés in the upper zone offer reliable wi-fi — notably the small coffee shop on Calle Clavellina which also rents co-working hot desks by the day. Mobile coverage (Movistar, Orange, Yoigo) is good throughout Centro Alto even without wi-fi; the higher ground gives better signal than parts of the Old Town.

Find long-stay apartments in Centro Alto

Self-catering apartments with weekly rates — quieter streets, lower prices, easy walk to the harbour and beach.

Prices compared to the Old Town and Dunas

Accommodation type Old Town (nightly) Centro Alto (nightly) Saving
1-bedroom apartment €80–120 €55–85 ~25–30%
2-bedroom apartment €110–160 €75–110 ~25–35%
Restaurant meal (main) €14–22 €10–16 ~20%
Coffee €2.50–3.50 €1.50–2.50 ~30%

For a two-week stay, the savings on accommodation and food alone often pay for the hire car that makes staying slightly off-centre effortless.

Walking distances from Centro Alto

The slight inconvenience of staying in Centro Alto — if it can be called that — is a ten to fifteen minute walk to the harbour and beaches. In practice, most Centro Alto visitors walk one-way and take a €5 taxi back in the evening. There is no bus route through the upper streets but taxis are abundant and cheap within the town boundary.

On foot

 • Old Town harbour: 10–12 min downhill
 • El Campanario (shopping): 8 min
 • Playa Chica (town beach): 15 min
 • Grandes Playas (dunes): 30–40 min, or 8 min by car

Remote working from Centro Alto

Corralejo is increasingly popular with digital nomads from Northern Europe — the combination of year-round warmth, good internet infrastructure and time zone alignment with Central Europe (UTC+0 in winter, UTC+1 in summer) makes it practical for most European working schedules. Centro Alto is the best zone in town for this use case: quieter buildings for calls, lower monthly costs, and a more sustainable rhythm for stays of three weeks or more.

Corralejo Dunes & Grandes Playas: Natural Park Beach Guide 2026

Corralejo · Natural Park & Beaches · 8 min read

Corralejo Dunes & Grandes Playas

Europe's most striking coastal desert meets Fuerteventura's longest stretch of turquoise water — the complete guide to the Corralejo Natural Park zone.

Beach & Nature Guide 8 min read Updated May 2026

Three kilometres south of Corralejo town, the tarmac gives way to sand. The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park — 2,700 hectares of protected Saharan-style dunes, lagoons and white-sand beaches running south along the coast — is what puts Fuerteventura on every serious beach-lover's map. National Geographic named Corralejo Beach the world's best in 2025. This is everything you need to know before you go.

The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park — what you're looking at

The park was established in 1982 to protect one of Europe's few true coastal dune ecosystems. The dunes here are not just scenic sand hills — they are an active, wind-driven system fed by Saharan dust carried on the trade winds from the African coast (just 97 km away). The sand is finely grained, almost white, and so consistent in colour and texture that it looks unreal on a sunny day.

Within the park boundary sit several distinct zones:

 • Grandes Playas — the main beach strip, 10+ km of sand facing east into the Atlantic. Split into named sections but essentially continuous.
 • Flag Beach — the international kitesurf and windsurf hub, 4 km south of Corralejo town. One of the top three kite spots in Europe.
 • Playa de la Clavellina — a quieter cove at the southern end of the park, popular with snorkellers.
 • Interior dunes — the iconic landscape of rolling sand hills, walkable from several car parks along the FV-1 road.

⚠️ Important rule

It is illegal to drive or park on the dunes themselves, or to remove sand or dune plants. Stick to marked paths and designated parking areas. Fines are substantial and actively enforced.

Flag Beach — kitesurfing and windsurfing capital of Fuerteventura

Flag Beach (named for the colourful instructor flags of its many water sports schools) is arguably the most famous strip of sand in the park. The combination of consistent northeast trade winds (Force 4–6 on most days between April and October) and the relatively shallow, flat water behind the reef ledge makes it one of the best learning and intermediate kite spots in Europe.

On any given afternoon between May and September you will see 30–60 kites in the air simultaneously. The schools operate in clearly marked water zones separated from bathers — watching the advanced riders at the southern end is a spectacle worth the drive even if you have no intention of getting on a board.

Water sports schools at Flag Beach

Several accredited schools operate directly off the beach. Two of the longest-established are Kite School Fuerteventura (kitesurfing and wing foiling) and Windsurf Fuerteventura (windsurfing for beginners through advanced). Both offer multi-day IKO/RYA-recognised courses and equipment rental. Fuerteventura Surf School also runs sessions on the beach breaks north of Flag Beach accessible from the same parking area.

Stay near the dunes

All-inclusive resorts, self-catering apartments and family hotels along the Grandes Playas strip — with live prices.

Browse Dunas accommodation →

The beaches of Grandes Playas

Locals refer to the Grandes Playas (Big Beaches) as a single entity, but the strip is divided informally by the access car parks off the FV-1 road. Key sections from north to south:

Beach sectionCharacterBest for
Playa de Corralejo NorteWide, moderate waves, lifeguard in seasonSwimming, families
Flag Beach areaFlat-water lagoon behind reef, consistent windKitesurfing, windsurfing
Playa del MoroMore exposed, steeper sand, fewer peopleExperienced swimmers, couples
Playa de la ClavellinaSheltered cove, calm water, rock platformsSnorkelling, long walks

All sections are undeveloped — no beach bars, no sun-bed hire, no cafés. Bring water, sun cream and shade. The nearest facilities are the hotel pools and restaurants along the FV-1, or back in town.

Wildlife and ecology of the dunes

The park supports nesting populations of the Houbara bustard (Chlamydotis undulata) — a large, ground-nesting bird listed as vulnerable globally. The dunes also host endemic lizard species (Gallotia atlantica), several rare beetle species adapted to Saharan-style conditions, and migratory shorebirds during autumn and spring passages.

The best time for birdwatching is October–November when migratory species move through. Walking the interior dune trails at dawn, before the wind picks up and visitors arrive, gives the best chance of encounters.

Getting to the Dunas zone from Corralejo town

 • Car / rental — FV-1 south from town, multiple signed car parks. 7–12 minutes from Old Town.
 • Walk — 35–50 minutes along the seafront promenade from town. Pleasant at sunrise; hot in summer afternoon.
 • Hotel shuttle — most of the large resorts (Riu, Barceló, Iberostar properties) run free shuttles to/from town.
 • Electric scooter rental — several operators in town. The seafront path allows e-scooters.

The resorts of Grandes Playas

The FV-1 road runs parallel to the beach through the park, lined on its inland side by a succession of large resort hotels and apartment complexes. The largest properties — Riu Oliva Beach, Barceló Corralejo Bay, Iberostar Fuerteventura Park — are all-inclusive operations with 400–600 rooms, multiple pools, and direct beach access across the road.

If you are choosing between these and the Old Town, the key tradeoff is: resort = more facilities, less character, car needed for town. Old Town = more atmosphere, more independence, dunes require a short transfer.

All-inclusive and half-board options directly on the Grandes Playas strip, with real-time availability.

Corralejo for two

Sunset dinners, quiet beaches at dawn, boutique stays. The romantic side of an island most people associate with kites.

Niche 5 min read Updated May 2026

Corralejo has a quieter side that gets overlooked behind the surf-and-party reputation. Boutique hotels, sunset-facing rooftops, deserted dune beaches at dawn, and dinners that don't involve high chairs. Here's how to plan a romantic break.

Where to stay

Bahía Real (5-star, on the dunes), Villa VIK private villa rentals, Atlantic Garden for an upscale apartment. Avoid family-resort vibes (Riu Oliva Beach, Acua-adjacent hotels).

Romantic spots

Sunset on the dunes (anywhere on the Dunas strip, 7pm). Drinks at El Faro in El Cotillo (40-min drive, lighthouse setting). Pre-sunset boat trip to Lobos (book private charter). Beach picnic at hidden Playa de los Charcos.

Dining for two

El Marinero for old-school harbor romance. Avenida for modern tapas. La Vaca Azul in El Cotillo for a special-occasion fish lunch. Sotavento rooftop for sunset cocktails before dinner.

Three-day suggested plan

Day 1: arrive, settle, sunset on the dunes, dinner in old town. Day 2: morning surf lesson together OR full-day Lobos private boat, late dinner. Day 3: drive to El Cotillo, lighthouse, beach lunch, lazy return.

Where Corralejo comes alive

Not Ibiza. Not Magaluf. Corralejo's nightlife is mellower, more international, and built around the harbor — here's the lay of the land.

Nightlife 5 min read Updated May 2026

Corralejo doesn't have superclubs. What it has is a tightly packed strip of harbor bars, a few decent music venues, and the kind of nights that start at sunset on a rooftop and end in a cocktail bar at 2 am. Here's where locals and repeat visitors actually go.

Sunset spots

Sotavento rooftop — best Corralejo sunset view from above. La Lonja on the harbor — terrace at water level, fresh fish and gintonics. Banana Bar for cheap beer and table-side ocean.

Live music

Rock Island Pub for rock cover bands, weekly schedule. Café del Mar for occasional jazz nights. Waikiki Beach Club in summer hosts DJs on Saturdays.

Late-night bars

Blanco Café for cocktails until 2am. Babylon for the dance crowd. El Sombrero bar (different from the restaurant) for late wine.

Tips

Most bars on the main strip have no dress code. Drinks €6–9. The harbor area is well-policed and feels safe. Nights run later June–September; quieter in winter when the bars close around midnight.

Old Town apartments and B&Bs walkable from every spot on this list.

Corralejo North Shore & Majanicho: Surf, Kite & Wild Coast Guide 2026

Corralejo North Shore & Majanicho

Reef breaks, flat-water kite lagoons, a ghost fishing village, and the road to El Cotillo — the wild northwest coast of Fuerteventura starts here.

Surf & Nature Guide 8 min read Updated May 2026

Point the car northwest out of Corralejo and within two minutes the resort strip disappears. The road to Majanicho and beyond to El Cotillo is Fuerteventura at its most exposed and most beautiful — volcanic rock platforms meeting cold Atlantic swell, ancient lava fields, and on every decent swell day, the kind of empty waves that make the long-haul flight feel entirely worthwhile.

The North Shore: orientation

The "North Shore" of Corralejo is not a neighbourhood with streets and addresses — it is the stretch of coastline running west and northwest from the town boundary along the FV-101 (the road to El Cotillo, passing through Lajares). The closest point is about 2 km from the Old Town. The furthest point in this guide — El Cotillo — is 25 km and 25 minutes by car.

The dominant features are: an almost continuous reef and rock platform exposed to North Atlantic groundswell, a series of flat-water lagoons behind the reef (used by kiteboarders and wing-foilers), the abandoned fishing settlement of Majanicho, and the open lava fields of the Malpaís de Bayuyo — the ancient volcanic landscape created by eruptions from the Bayuyo volcano visible on the horizon.

🏄 Quick summary for surfers

The North Shore has reef and point breaks working in NW–NE swells. Best months: October–March. Intermediate–advanced only at most spots. The closest beach break to town is accessible without a car; everything further requires driving. Water temperature: 18–23°C year-round (3/2mm wetsuit Oct–May, boardshorts Jun–Sep).

Surf spots on the North Shore

El Hierro (closest to Corralejo)

About 2.5 km northwest of town, El Hierro is the first proper reef break on the North Shore road. A right-hander breaking over a volcanic shelf, it works best in 1.5–3m NW swell with light easterly wind. Intermediate surfers can manage it in smaller conditions; when it gets over 2m it becomes a fast, powerful ride requiring experience. Parking is roadside with a short walk across the rocks.

Los Lobos — the town-side point

Not to be confused with the island, this is a small point break visible from the Corralejo seafront on good swell days. It works in E–NE wind swell and is more forgiving than El Hierro. Popular with learners from the town surf schools when conditions align. Fuerteventura Surf School sometimes runs lessons here when the main beach is overcrowded.

Majanicho reefs

The most consistent stretch. Several named breaks along the reef system adjacent to the Majanicho settlement, working in a range of swell directions. The main left-hander here is a local favourite — long, walling and fast in 1.5–2.5m. Crowds are light compared to Flag Beach or El Cotillo. Access via the dirt track to the old village; 4WD not required in dry conditions.

El Cotillo (end of the North Shore road)

El Cotillo's La Izquierda (The Left) is widely regarded as the best wave on the island — a long left-hander breaking off the headland north of the village. It requires a proper NW swell (1.8m+) and offshore wind; when it fires, it is world-class, and the surf community knows it. The village also has a calm lagoon beach in the south, perfect for non-surfers who drive out with the group.

Surf camps and stays on the North Shore

Surf camps, apartments near the breaks, and villas for groups — book accommodation close to the action.

Kitesurfing and windsurfing — the North Shore lagoons

While Flag Beach (in the Dunas Natural Park, south of town) is the more famous kite spot, several of the flat-water lagoons on the North Shore road offer exceptional conditions — particularly for progression riders who find Flag Beach crowded in July and August.

The lagoon at km 4 of the FV-101 (no official name, marked on kite community maps as "North Lagoon") has consistent side-onshore wind and water depths of 0.5–1.5m across most of its surface — ideal for learning water starts and body drags. Two accredited schools operate sessions here: Kite School Fuerteventura and Windsurf Fuerteventura. Both offer transport from Corralejo town as part of their lesson packages.

Majanicho — the ghost fishing village

Majanicho is one of Fuerteventura's most unusual places. It is a cluster of small stone fishing huts — perhaps 30–40 structures — built directly on the volcanic rock platform of the North Shore, accessible via a dirt track from the FV-101. It was built in the 1950s and 60s as a seasonal fishing settlement, used during the months when the yellowfin tuna and sea bass were running close to shore.

Today it is technically uninhabited year-round (a grey area — a few huts appear occasionally occupied), but many huts have been restored and are used informally as summer escape cabins by Majoreros from the capital. There are no services, no toilets, no beach — just extraordinary volcanic geology, very clear water, and a silence that feels improbable this close to a tourist town. FuerteventuraTV has filmed several documentary shorts about Majanicho that are worth watching before visiting.

The Bayuyo volcanic landscape

The drive from Corralejo to Majanicho passes through the Malpaís de Bayuyo (literally "badlands of Bayuyo"), the lava field created by eruptions from the Bayuyo volcano approximately 4,000 years ago. The Bayuyo cone itself — visible to the south — is accessible via a marked trail from a small car park on the FV-101 and is one of the best viewpoints on the north of the island.

The walk to the crater rim takes about 45 minutes each way on a clear trail. The view from the top encompasses: Corralejo town to the east, Lobos Island and Lanzarote beyond it, the North Shore coastline below, and on clear days the silhouette of Tenerife and Gran Canaria to the southwest.

Practical information — North Shore logistics

Corralejo Old Town & Harbour: Complete Neighbourhood Guide 2026

Corralejo · Neighborhood Guide · 7 min read

Corralejo Old Town & Harbour

Fishing port, whitewashed streets, ferry to Lobos Island — this is the beating heart of Corralejo. A complete guide to the town's original quarter.

Neighborhood Guide 7 min read Updated May 2026

Long before the resorts spread south toward the dunes, Corralejo was a fishing village. Today the Old Town and Harbour district — a compact knot of whitewashed streets between the ferry terminal and the old market — remains the most alive, walkable and genuinely Canarian corner of the whole north coast.

What makes the Old Town different

The Old Town sits in the northern tip of Corralejo, roughly within a 600-metre radius of the ferry terminal on Avenida Marítima. Streets are narrow here by design — this was a village laid out for donkey carts, not rental cars. That makes it the only part of Corralejo where you genuinely do not need a vehicle for anything.

The architecture is a mixture: low whitewashed Canarian houses with timber balconies, more recent apartment blocks painted in cream and terracotta, and a handful of converted fishing warehouses that now house restaurants and bars. Facing the harbour is the small Muelle Chico (little pier) where the Lobos Island ferries depart, the tourist glass-bottom boats moor, and local fishermen still unload catches on slow mornings.

📍 Key orientation

The Old Town's main artery is Calle La Iglesia (the church street), running parallel to the seafront from Plaza del Generalísimo to the harbour. All the best restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops open onto this street or the lanes branching off it.

The streets worth exploring

Avenida Marítima

The seafront promenade runs the full length of the harbour. Walk it at sunset for the views back toward the dunes and Lobos Island on the horizon. The northern end has a small beach, Playa del Muelle, popular with families because it is sheltered and shallow. The southern end passes the bus station (Bus 6 to Fuerteventura Airport, €3.40) and opens into the larger resort strip.

Calle La Iglesia & the side lanes

This is where to eat, drink, and browse. Restaurants range from Canarian classics (order the papas arrugadas con mojo and the grilled lapas limpets) to British pub food, Italian pizza and Japanese fusion. The best independent boutiques selling local ceramics, surf apparel and Canarian wines cluster in the lanes between La Iglesia and the harbour.

Plaza del Generalísimo

The old town square, overlooked by the 18th-century Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen. The church is small and open most mornings — worth five minutes inside for the calm and the blue-and-white azulejo tilework. The plaza around it has become a gathering point for local chess players on weekend mornings.

Getting to Lobos Island from the harbour

This is the single biggest practical advantage of staying in the Old Town. The Lobos Island ferry departs from Muelle Chico six to ten times daily (depending on season), with a crossing time of just 15 minutes. Day trips are capped at 200 visitors per day (natural park rules), so buying your ticket the morning of or the evening before from the kiosk at the pier is strongly recommended in July and August.

For full logistics on the day trip — including what to bring, which beaches to walk to, and the snorkelling spots — see the upcoming guide on this site. Meanwhile, FuerteventuraTV has aerial footage of the island that gives an excellent visual sense of the terrain before you go. And if you are looking for an Italian-language perspective on Corralejo, AppartamentiCorralejo.it covers accommodation and local tips for Italian visitors.

Eating and drinking in the Old Town

The Old Town has the highest density of quality restaurants in Corralejo. Roughly speaking: the closer you are to the seafront, the more tourist-oriented (and slightly more expensive) the menu. One or two streets inland you find the places where locals eat on a Tuesday night — same ingredients, smaller margin.

What to order

 • Papas arrugadas — small wrinkled potatoes cooked in heavily salted water, served with mojo rojo (chilli) or mojo verde (coriander). Compulsory at least once.
 • Lapas — grilled limpets with garlic and lemon. Every harbour restaurant in the Canaries serves them; the Old Town versions use locally caught shellfish.
 • Queso majorero — the PDO-protected goat's cheese of Fuerteventura, often served grilled with mojo or honey.
 • Vieja a la espalda — parrotfish, butterfly-opened and grilled. Order it when the daily catch is in.

Evening rhythm

Bars open around 19:00. Dinner starts at 20:00–21:00 and the streets stay animated until 01:00 in season. If you want quiet sleep, book an apartment on the inland side of Calle La Iglesia — the seafront terraces carry noise further than you might expect on still summer nights.

Practical info for visitors

Who should stay in the Old Town?

Perfect for: first-time visitors to Corralejo, couples who want restaurants on the doorstep, solo travellers, people staying fewer than 5 nights who want to maximize what they see, anyone without a hire car.

Not ideal for: light sleepers sensitive to bar noise on weekend nights, families who want a pool (most Old Town accommodation is apartment-style with no pool), surfers who need to drive north every morning (a car adds friction to the stay).

El Campanario Corralejo: Shopping, Dining & Where to Stay 2026

Corralejo · Neighborhood Guide · 5 min read

El Campanario: Shopping, Dining & Staying

Corralejo's smartest open-air complex — boutiques, restaurants, a rooftop bar and modern apartment living five minutes from the harbour.

Neighborhood Guide 5 min read Updated May 2026

El Campanario is not a neighbourhood in the traditional sense — it is an open-air commercial centre that has become the anchor of a wider residential zone roughly midway between the harbour and the resort strip. Five minutes' walk from the ferry terminal, it is the place where visitors who want shopping and restaurants within arm's reach, but prefer to sleep in quiet modern apartments rather than on a bar street, tend to end up.

What is El Campanario?

El Campanario (literally, "the bell tower") is a two-storey open-air retail and dining complex on Avenida Gran Canaria, the main road that cuts through central Corralejo. It opened in the 2000s as the town expanded south, and today is the closest thing the town has to a town-centre shopping area: fashion boutiques, souvenir shops, a supermarket, a pharmacy, jewellery stores, surf brands and several dozen restaurants and bars spread across its internal courtyards and upper terraces.

📍 Location

El Campanario sits on Avenida Gran Canaria, approximately 500 metres south of the harbour. You can walk there from the Old Town in 5–8 minutes, or from the southern end of Grandes Playas in about 20 minutes.

Shopping at El Campanario

The complex has around 40 shops across two levels. For visitors these are the most useful:

 • Spar / Hiperdino — well-stocked supermarket with local Canarian products, wines and spirits. Open Sunday mornings, which is rare in Corralejo.
 • Surf and beach brands — Rip Curl, Billabong and several independent Canarian surf shops sell boardshorts, rash guards, wetsuits and fins. Better selection here than anywhere else in town.
 • Local crafts — look for the smaller artisan units on the upper floor: Fuerteventura ceramics, hand-painted tiles and queso majorero gift packs.
 • Pharmacy — open seven days; the staff speak English and German as well as Spanish.

Eating and drinking at El Campanario

The upper terrace of El Campanario has arguably the best concentration of mid-range restaurants in Corralejo — none are especially cheap, but the quality-to-price ratio is more reliable than the tourist-heavy seafront. The rooftop bar at the corner of the complex is a good spot for a pre-dinner drink with views over the rooftops toward the sea.

What kind of food?

The mix skews international: Italian pizzerias, a solid Indian restaurant, a Thai kitchen, Argentine parrilla (grill) and two or three Spanish tapas bars. For a full Canarian experience, walk ten minutes south to the local restaurants near Calle Lepanto — cheaper and more authentic than the complex.

Sleep near El Campanario

Modern apartments and small hotels within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants and the harbour.

The residential area around El Campanario

The streets radiating out from El Campanario — particularly Calle Anzuelo, Calle Barlovento and the blocks east of Avenida Gran Canaria — are filled with modern apartment complexes built between 2000 and 2015. These are popular with longer-stay visitors and repeat visitors who have outgrown the noise of the harbour but want to remain within easy walking distance of restaurants and the beach.

Typical stay profile

The El Campanario catchment area suits couples and solo travellers planning a one-to-two-week stay, people who want a supermarket within two minutes and a pharmacy on the doorstep, and anyone who doesn't own a hire car and wants everything on foot. It is also a strong digital nomad area: the apartments are generally larger and quieter than Old Town, the wi-fi is more reliable (modern buildings), and there are several coffee shops open from 08:00.

Is El Campanario worth a day trip if not staying there?

For shopping, yes — especially for surf gear, local produce and last-minute pharmacy needs. For dinner, the upper terrace restaurants are a pleasant change from the harbour strip. But it is not a destination in itself: most visitors pass through naturally while walking between the Old Town and the resort area to the south.

For video content about the wider Corralejo area and useful destination footage before you arrive, the team at FuerteventuraTV publishes regularly updated aerial and street-level videos of the town. Spanish-speaking visitors can also browse accommodation guides at CorralejoFuerteventura.es — a sister site covering the destination in Spanish.
