Surfing in Corralejo

The surf capital of Fuerteventura — Atlantic swells year-round, beginner-friendly beach breaks, world-class reefs nearby.

Activities 7 min read Updated May 2026

Corralejo sits on the most consistent stretch of Atlantic swell in the Canary Islands. Beginners learn at Flag Beach, intermediates head to El Hierro and Bristol, and the north shore reefs (Lobos, Majanicho) hold proper barrels in winter.

The spots, by level

Beginners stick to Flag Beach (sand bottom, gentle waves, schools everywhere). Intermediates try El Hierro and Bristol — punchier, more crowded with lineups. Advanced surf the Lobos right (boat access) or Majanicho slabs on the right swell.

Best surf schools

Fuerteventura Surf School, Wave Tribe and Protest Surf Center dominate the beginner market — all ISA-certified, all run from Flag Beach. A 5-day course costs €175–230 in 2026. Single 2-hour lesson: €40–55, board and wetsuit included.

Seasons

November to March is the prime season — biggest swells from northern Atlantic depressions, 4/3mm wetsuit needed. April–June mellower, summer suits work. July–August small waves but warm water and steady trade winds for downwind paddles. September–October the sweet spot: warm sea, returning swell.

Where to stay if you're surf-focused

Flag Beach area is the obvious base. North of town toward Majanicho is more authentic and cheaper but you need a car. Avoid the Dunas resorts unless you're with non-surfing family.
