Day Trip to El Cotillo from Corralejo: Lagoons, Sunsets, Fish
Day Trip · 5 min read
Escape to El Cotillo
35 minutes by car. Quieter beaches, the best fish restaurants on the island, and the kind of sunset that ends days in Fuerteventura.
If Corralejo is the busy fun town, El Cotillo is its quieter sister — fishing village on Fuerteventura's wild west coast, 35 minutes by car. Empty lagoons, sunset-facing bars, and arguably the best fish lunches on the island.
Getting there
Rent a car (the only sensible option — public transport is irregular). Drive south on FV-1, take FV-101 inland through Lajares (worth a coffee stop), then FV-10 to El Cotillo. 35 minutes door to door.
Where to swim
Two coasts: south side has the famous Lagoons (Playa de la Concha, Los Charcos) — turquoise tide pools, calm water, kids' paradise. North side has the surf beaches with bigger waves and stronger current.
Where to eat
La Vaca Azul on the south beach for fish lunch with sea view (€18–25 main). El Faro at the lighthouse for sunset cocktails and tapas. El Goloso in town for casual local Canarian.
Practical
Wear flat shoes — the streets are uneven. Bring sun cream — almost no shade. Best time: arrive 11am, swim, lunch 2pm, walk lighthouse 6pm, sunset cocktail 7pm, drive back. Total: a perfect 8-hour day.
