Volcanic reefs, turquoise lagoons, the cleanest visibility in the Canary Islands. Where to snorkel for free and where to dive with a guide.
Fuerteventura's north coast has some of the best snorkeling in the Canaries — volcanic rock formations creating natural pools, abundant fish life, water visibility often above 20 meters. Diving is run from Corralejo harbor with several operators going daily to Lobos Island sites.
Best free snorkel spots
Lobos Island lagoons (boat needed but the water is worth it). Muelle Chico right in town — calm, fish around the harbor walls. Playa de los Charcos north of town — tidal pools full of small fish at low tide.
Where to dive
Dive operators in Corralejo run boat trips to Lobos sites: El Veril (volcanic wall, 5–30 m), Los Pajeros (cave dives), La Pared (drop-off, sometimes manta sightings). 2-tank boat dive €70–90 with gear.
Beginner courses
Open Water certification €380–450 over 3–4 days. Try-dive without certification €70–90 for a half-day in shallow water. Reputable operators: Dive Center Corralejo, Punta Amanay, Aqua Dive.
What you'll see
Parrotfish, damselfish, octopuses, rays in shallow water. Mantas and angel sharks in deeper sites during cold months. Whales offshore in spring (boat tour required to spot them).
